Born in 1979 in Lausanne, Switzerland,
Christian Chamorel has lately taken his place as a reputed
soloist and chamber musician on the international scene. He
has been invited to play at the Konzerthaus Berlin, the
Tonhalle Zurich, the Prinzregententheater Munich, the Palau
de la Musica in Valencia, the Wigmore Hall in London, with
a live broadcast performance for the BBC, as well as the
“Klavierfestival Ruhr”, the Yehudi Menuhin Festival in
Gstaad and the “Serres d’Auteuil” in Paris. As a soloist,
he has played with orchestras such as the “Orchestre
de Chambre de Lausanne”, the “Orchestre de la Suisse
Italienne”, the “Orquesta de Valencia”, the “Orchestra
Sinfonica Carlo Coccia”, the “Musikkollegium Winterthur”
and the “Bach Collegium” in Munich. He also accompanied
artists such as Ruth Ziesak, Christian Gerhaher, Pierre
Amoyal, Ann Murray, Philip Langridge, Christoph and Stephan
Genz, and Rachel Kolly d'Alba.
After achieving his first musical training at the Lausanne
Conservatoire, he went on studying at the Munich
Musikhochschule under Gerhard Oppitz and simultaneously
obtained, in 2004, the Soloist Diploma, as well as diplomas
for Chamber music and Lied accompaniment. In May 2006, he
obtained the Soloist Diploma under Homero Francesch at the
Musikhochschule in Zurich.
Christian Chamorel is one of the most awarded Swiss
pianists of his generation. He has been awarded numerous
prizes and scholarships in Switzerland (Leenaards,
Kiefer-Hablitzel) and was a prizewinner at international
competitions such as the “Prize Iturbi Competition”, the
“Gian Battista Viotti Competition”, the “Beethoven
Competition” in Vienna and the “Konzertgesellschaft
Competition” in Munich. He also received first prizes at
the Geneva Arts Society and the first edition of the
international competition “Les Virtuoses du Futur” in
Crans-Montana, Switzerland. In 2005 he recorded a CD
dedicated to works by Franz Liszt, widely applauded by the
public and musical reviews. A second CD, also with music by
Liszt (“Années de Pèlerinage”), came out in spring 2009.
Besides his career as a soloist, Christian Chamorel teaches
since September 2007 at the Geneva Conservatory. He is also
the founder and artistic director of "Le Mont Musical", a
Lied and chamber music festival in Le Mont-sur-Lausanne,
Switzerland.
